Driver: Scott Deimel Age: 46 Hometown: Edmond, Oklahoma My love for racing began as I grew up only miles from Talladega Speedway in Alabama. My hero then and still today is Richard Petty. Having met him a few times, I saw how he handled himself around race fans, always taking the time to sign autographs and to talk. To me he will always be The King! I graduated from Anniston High School in 1980 and briefly attended college at Jacksonville State University. Realizing that college was not for me, I entered the United States Air Force in 1984, where I happily served for 20 years. During that time I spent 15 of those years as a Telephone and Equipment Installation technician. With a need for excitement and a spirit for adventure, I spent 5 years as a Sensor Operator on AC-130H Spectre Gunships. This is an awesome and powerful aircraft that provides close air support, target interdiction, reconnaissance, and armed escort with incredible accuracy. The aircraft is armed with two 20mm Vulcan guns that put out up to 2500 rounds a minute, each! It also has a 40mm Bofors cannon capable of putting out 80 rounds a minute and finally a 105mm Howitzer cannon that can put out 12-15 rounds a minute. If this aircraft doesn’t give you an adrenaline rush, nothing will! While in the Air Force and living in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, I was blessed with the birth of my 2 daughters Jennifer and Ashley. My military career allowed me to travel to 24 different countries around the world and although I really enjoyed traveling abroad, there is no place like the good old USA. After retirement I began working for a Miller/Coors beer Distributorship. It was there that I met Rick Perry, Mike Bias and Bob Holbrook. All were racing United States Super Trucks out of the same shop as Series Owner/driver Eric Caudell, and drivers Ryan Hicks and Tony Springwater. After working at the shop and in the pits for a year, Eric offered to let me drive his #4 Rent a truck, fondly referred to as the Rent a heap! I currently work for Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. as the Telecom Supervisor responsible for all telecommunications for the stores and the corporate campus. I have been there for 2 years and really enjoy working for a fast growing and Christian oriented company. In my first year of racing (2006) I raced at JRP Speedway in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Altus Speedway in Altus Oklahoma, and Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids Iowa. I spent the rest of the 2006 season trying to get used to driving and seemed to be getting more aggressive with each race. Over the winter I completely overhauled the entire truck. I stripped the truck down to just the chassis, removed as much excess weight as I could, repainted the chassis, replaced the body, replaced the engine with a Chevy Crate Motor, replaced the clutch, and when it was all said and done, nobody could believe it was the same truck. The truck looked clean and it was fast! It was like having a brand new truck. What a great season! I didn’t win a feature race but I finished my first full season 2nd overall in points in a series with 29 trucks! Consistency was the key to my success in 2007. Our series is really growing quickly! Last year we had about 14 trucks and started out with 21 trucks at the beginning of the season. Recently the series grew to 29 Super Trucks! See the USST racing schedule for our future races. I hope to see you at a track near you! Scott |
